16 Apr 2016 I got an xbox 360 controller working simply by plugging it in via USB, but I've downloaded and installed the 64-bit driver from this page, which didn't work. that the drivers worked for me back when I was still on Windows 7.

I can only contribute to say that the drivers worked for me back when I was still on Windows 7. I'm not on the same OS any more, so I'm not equipped to troubleshoot or otherwise render assistance, but I was happily using the Xbox One as a wired controller before switching to Windows 10, where I can use it wirelessly.
